Wow, totally missed this, Little Red!

Uh... Tasmanian Devil? Jersey Devil who took a wrong turn at teh Pine Barrens?

No clue.

We had a weird one a week ago or so, too, coming back in dark, about 40 mis from home, two poor dead critters on a back road. Thought they were possums from a distance (no possums around here, so was very excited), then as we passed, they turned into what I think were rabbits. Pale, almost whitish. Houses & ranches around, so maybe escaped pets :(

Probably should mention that porch feeding areas are within full view of big window in living room, maybe 6 feet away. Birds can easily see us through the window.

And the porch is a raised deck, about 12-15 feet above the ground.

So there's a lot of things to be wary of, if you're a raven.

Today's fun thing is to see if we can get ravens onto teh porch. Not gonna shovel out garden (raven feeder, safe from dogs, but no wunder a foot-plus of fresh snow).

Raven's been here, hangin' around in trees, just not brave enough yet.

Put out highly visible baloney slices and cheese ravioli and dog kibble on porch shelf feeder. We'll see.

(As I write this, I'm looking at three gorgeous male pine grosbeaks and a magpie sitting in teh same aspen. Man, teh birds here still are such a thrill!)

The real Sally ain't much different than the illusory one lol.

Oh man, I envy you your spring-y weather! Most of all, the growing things.

We do have robins, oddly; they've been here all winter. Yesterday must've been easily 50 of em passing through.

Boy, those darn bears sure make things difficult. Would love chickens, angora goats, all sorts of critters. But they're nothing but bear bait. Can't wait to hear what you come up with for the beehives :)

That grasshopper photo is just perfect for your return! Time to get rid of what you have outgrown. Well, welcome back to the "real" Sally, although I enjoyed the illusionary Sally while it lasted.

It hit 62 degrees here today. My daffodils have sprouted, bugs are flying about and robins are hopping thru the mud. I can not believe it is February 1st.

Thinking about bees again but first thinking about electric fencing or maybe rooftop beekeeping. Time to brainstorm about battling these brown bear bruins.

FINE. Okay, so it's neverending.

Even in an inhospitable wasteland where teh only flowers that grow are zillions of blue & purple penstemons of 5 different kinds and orange wallflowers and red paintbrush and golden banner peas and lavender erigeron and fuchsia (and white!!!) shooting stars and those giant white evening primroses and that wild candytuft stuff and black-eyed susans and gaillardia and lovely mariposas and beebalm and and and.. oh yeah, them fuzzy purple things that bloom in snow. Which is around, what, 9 months outta teh year?

Oh yeah, and teh wild orchids.

FINE. A girl can dream, dammit.

Here's a website run by vets, breeders, and other dog professionals, who are thinking along the same lines as me on this grape thing. Search for "grapes," or just start with this:

Hi, Lynnie! Great to meet you!

Been researching this whole raisins/grapes thing (and onions, as well). I'm baffled.

Haven't been able to find any scientific papers about it at all. Seems to have originated with ASPCA's Poison Control Center. Wrote about it for my regular column in newspaper; will post that over in the forum.

Sure would love to see *any* hard science on the alleged problem, something that is independent of the info on the ASPCA Poison Control site. Looked at Merck vet manual; nothing hard and fast in there, either. It's a mystery I sure would love to solve.

No phone up here in mts, or would start doing research by phone. Maybe next wk, if deadlines allow.

But thanks so much for your concern. Nope, we sure don't want to harm our furry friends :)

What neck o' the woods do you live in, if I may ask? Having a weird winter there?
